To all STEPS Elite team players, parents, coaches, and friends:

This year STEPS Lacrosse is adding a community service component to our Elite Team Program.  Although completely optional this initiative can be a great way to build community service hours and raise significant funds for a great cause.

STEPS Lacrosse will be participating in 2 events this year that will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast cancer foundation.

The first event is the Race For the Cure on Sunday May 4th in Branchbrook park in Newark. We will be entering as one team under the STEPS Lacrosse name.  Individual team entrants only need to register for the race ($25), no other fundraising needs to be done for the Race.  Anyone is welcome to join the STEPS Lacrosse team for the Race.
(Click here to register to walk in the Race for the Cure.)

The second event that we are participating in is Lax For The Cure. Part of your tournament entry fee is already being donated to Komen, in addition each participating club is being asked to raise additional funds for the cause.  We would like to have STEPS Elite players and coaches participate in this as well.  If each player and coach raised $500 for Komen, the total donation would be over $100,000.  We have power in numbers to make a difference.  You can click on the below link and see how the donation process works.  In addition, you should send the link to family and friends who will donate in your name.  Please tell them what STEPS Elite team you play for and to include your name as the players' name.  For instance, Jane Smith, plays on the STEPS Elite 2013 Blue team.
(Click here to go directly to the Lax For The Cure donation page.)

Please note that amounts and commitment to this cause is OPTIONAL!

Please read on for detailed information about the Lax For The Cure tournament and initiative.

About Lax For The Cure™:
Lax For The Cure™ was the idea of Jessica Shoulberg, Mendham High School Coach and director of STEPS Lacrosse.  During the summer of 2007 The STEPS Lacrosse club had 4 mothers fighting breast cancer.  Jessica's concept came from the notion that with the growth of girls lacrosse and summer tournament circuit, that an opportunity presented itself to start a tournament that would meet the ideals of players, parents, clubs, and college coaches. The goal was to ultimately find a way to raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer within the girls lacrosse community.

In addition to playing in the tournament, all teams are being asked to raise additional funds for the fight against breast cancer.  This initiative is completely optional.  100% of funds raised will go directly to Susan G. Komen For The Cure.

There is power in numbers!  As an example if every player and coach in the STEPS Elite Team Program raised $500 each, we would raise over $100,000 dollars for the fight against breast cancer.

Each player can solicit online donations, that go directly to Komen.  Komen has set up a donation page specifically for Lax For The Cure.  Here is the link to the donation page:  https://secure2.convio.net/rfcnj/site/Donation2?df_id=1140&1140.donation=landing

We will be able to track donations made on behalf of each individual player and team.  Ideally we would like each STEPS team to compete to raise the most money.

You can start raising funds immediately, but as an official Kick-off to the initiative STEPS Lacrosse will be walking as one big team in the:

FIRST ANNUAL SUSAN G. KOMEN
NORTH JERSEY RACE FOR THE CURE®
SUNDAY, MAY 4, 2008
Essex County Branch Brook Park, Newark, NJ

Team Name: STEPS Lacrosse

Besides the race entry fee, STEPS Lacrosse team members do NOT have to raise money for the race itself.

We encourage ANYONE to join our team for the race, not just STEPS players.  Please invite family, friends, neighbors, ANYONE!

We have power in numbers!  We would like to have one of the largest teams in the race.  Please join us to help make a difference!

Sincerely,

Charlie Shoulberg
